Turning on STEP/BBB

Using miniUSB

  • STEP/BBB boots when you plug in miniUSB port.

Using DC power supply

  • If you want to use I/O cape you have to supply the power by the accompanied DC power supply.

Connection to STEP/BBB

  • Since there is no monitor connected, you can monitor STEP/PC by PuTTY.
  • STEP/BBB provides one Ethernet connection for connection with a host. This can be done in two ways.

Connecting by Static IP (using miniUSB)

  • Using miniUSB port: After you install NRMKPlatform for STEP/BBB the miniUSB port provides virtual Ethernet, whose IP address is statically configured to have 192.168.7.2. Using the accompanied USB cable it can be connected to a host by this address. The miniUSB port is located below the Ethernet port. Do not confuse with the miniHDMI port at the reverse side.

Connecting by DHCP (using Ethernet)

  • STEP/BBB exposes one real Ethernet port, which is configured to support DHCP. This is useful when you connect the STEP/BBB to a hub where your host PC can find the STEP/BBB, e.g. by Advanced IP Scanner(download). The name of STEP/PC is ARM. In the figure below you can see that one ARM is connected and its IP address is 192.168.0.243. A host can connect to the STEP/BBB by this address, e.g. in PuTTY.
